About the Role

This is a 0.8 FTE position (4 days per week). The provision is managed by Northumberland College’s Land-Based Campus at Kirkley Hall, with the role primarily based at Sunderland College’s Bede Campus, Durham Road, Sunderland.

This role sits within our new Connect2 SEMH provision and is focused on engagement, triage and early intervention. You will be based within a dedicated hub, acting as a key point of contact for learners who need support to access and sustain their learning.

This is a new and developing provision, which gives you the opportunity to shape systems, support pathways and learner experience from the start. You will work closely with curriculum teams, support services and external partners to ensure learners receive the right support at the right time.

This role offers strong development opportunities in SEND practice, multi-agency working and trauma-informed approaches. You will contribute to staff development and help embed inclusive practice across the college.

Role Responsibilities

• Act as a first point of contact for learners, completing triage, initial assessments and identifying support needs
• Provide short-term interventions, emotional regulation support and clear signposting to services
• Work with curriculum staff and support staff to remove barriers and improve learner engagement

About the Candidate

Are you an experienced agricultural professional with extensive hands-on experience operating farm machinery? Are you passionate about passing on your skills and knowledge to the next generation of agricultural engineers and farmers? 

Northumberland College is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Programme Leader to join our ambitious Land-based team at Kirkley Hall Campus. 

As a Changemaker, you will play a leading role in delivering our Agriculture Level 2 and Level 3 programmes, with a strong emphasis on the safe operation, use and maintenance of modern agricultural machinery and equipment. You will also support the delivery of our exciting new Level 2 Land-based Engineering qualification, helping students develop the technical knowledge and practical skills needed by today's agricultural industry. 

This role is ideally suited to someone with significant practical experience of operating a wide range of farm machinery, such as tractors, telehandlers, cultivation equipment, grassland machinery and other agricultural implements. You will be confident demonstrating machinery operation safely and professionally, while teaching students the practical skills and industry standards expected by employers. 

Ideally, you will also have knowledge and qualifications in land-based engineering, enabling you to teach machinery maintenance, servicing, fault finding and basic repairs. However, if you have extensive industry experience and a passion for developing others, we would welcome your application. 

As Programme Leader, you will inspire students through engaging practical and classroom teaching, lead curriculum development, and work closely with colleagues and industry partners to ensure our programmes reflect the latest agricultural practices and employer needs. 

This is a 0.4 FTE (part-time) position, making it an ideal opportunity for someone who wishes to combine teaching with a continued career in the agricultural industry. We particularly welcome applications from experienced agricultural machinery operators, farm managers, engineers and industry professionals who are passionate about sharing their expertise while remaining actively engaged in the sector. About the Role 

The role is full time and permanent and is based at Kirkley Hall, Northumberland College.

This is an exciting period of growth for our specialist SEND provision, which includes a range of programmes designed to meet the needs of learners with varying levels of need and complexity. The successful candidate will lead the communication programme that supports learners with learning difficulties, disabilities, and communication needs, ensuring outstanding learner experiences and positive outcomes.

The role includes a range of professional development opportunities and the chance to contribute to regional and national SEND initiatives, partnerships, and sector leading practice.

Role Responsibilities 

• Lead a specialist SEND programme area, ensuring high quality curriculum planning, delivery, assessment, and learner outcomes.

• Plan, prepare and deliver high quality, sequenced learning through personalised and learner centred schemes of learning.

• Provide an outstanding learner experience through exemplary teaching, learning, assessment, and support.

• Develop and implement strategies that promote communication, independence, preparation for adulthood, employability, and personal development.

• Lead curriculum innovation and quality improvement activities to ensure continuous enhancement of provision.

• Monitor learner progress, attendance, engagement, and achievement, implementing timely interventions where required.

• Work collaboratively with learning support teams, therapists, external agencies, families, and employers to ensure learners receive holistic support.

• Support and develop staff within the programme area through coaching, mentoring, and professional development activities.

• Actively engage in reflective practice and contribute to wider college quality improvement initiatives.

• Participate in college recruitment, transition, open events, and marketing activities as required.

Qualifications

• Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training or equivalent teaching qualification.

• Degree or Level 5 qualification in a relevant subject area.

• Level 2 Mathematics.

• Level 2 English Language.

• SEND qualification or willingness to work towards one is desirable.

• Experience of teaching within Further Education, specialist education, or SEND settings.

• Experience of working with learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.

• Knowledge of current SEND legislation, reforms, and post 16 education policy.
• Experience of employer engagement and supported internship or work based learning models.
• Experience of embedding employability, independence, English, maths, and digital skills within vocational programmes.
