About the College 

Northumberland College is Ofsted Outstanding and is currently building a multi-million, state of the art, new college campus in Ashington, due to open in 2026.  The successful candidate will be based at the new college where a purpose-built construction, housing, advanced manufacturing and engineering centre will be located.

Curriculum spans technical, vocational further and higher education and includes large apprenticeship provision and dedicated centres for young people with SEND.

The College has two main campuses in Ashington, and Ponteland, and as part of the college group Education Partnership Northeast, it also has a significant number of satellite delivery centres across the region

Served by easy road links, and the new train station in Ashington, when Northumberland College opens its new Department for Education backed campus at Wansbeck Business Park, the college will boast a national trailblazer both in architectural design and operation. This major £52 million+ investment comes on top of the College recently driving £14million into new facilities and resources at its existing sites.

About the Candidate

You will need to be organised, innovative, and a team player with the drive to develop and expand collaborative relationships across all areas of study within the college. You will be ambitious and innovative in your approaches and take the lead in pedagogical development to drive the curriculum forward. The successful candidate will be pivotal in engaging with external stakeholders, communities of practice and County of Sanctuary representatives.

You should hold a relevant teaching qualification along with a an accredited TEFL certificate or equivalent.


About the Role

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Lecturer and Programme Leader to join our ambitious team at Northumberland College, leading and delivering across the ESOL curriculum. If you are passionate and have a strong track record of providing outstanding teaching and learning opportunities within an ESOL provision, then this is the ideal job for you. The role of our ESOL team will be pivotal in ensuring we maintain outstanding student destinations, provide an inclusive, welcoming environment and seek opportunity to value the knowledge and skills of our student commodity.


Role Responsibilities 

  • Planning and preparation of high-quality, sequenced learning through career-focused schemes of learning, session planning and resources.
  • Assist with the creation of high-quality digital learning platforms and resources developing the digital literacy and future-readiness of students.
  • To provide an excellent experience to students through exemplary learning, teaching and standards of assessment. 
  • Teach students to high standards using appropriate and varied student-centred approaches, embracing learning technologies to enhance the student experience. 
  • Develop and share subject pedagogy within and across teams to maintain currency and accuracy. 
  • Actively engage in reflective practice and contributing to the wider Professional Development programme. 
  • Preparation of effective formative and summative assessments to meet awarding organisation standards and student needs. 
  • Carry out assessment providing constructive feedback to support improvement and raise aspiration
  • Maintain specified assessment plans and records. 
  • Participate in college quality assurance, quality enhancement and quality improvement processes. 
  • Contribute to the maintenance of accurate records and documentation to support audit enquiries


Qualifications

  • Minimum Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training or equivalent, or commitment to complete within the first two year
  • CELTA or equivalent

 

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Planning and delivering sessions that are safe, inclusive, stretching, and relevant to learners
  • Leading and contributing to internal quality assurance processes
  • Working collaboratively with students and colleagues to review student progress, supporting achievement of learning and personal development goals
  • Developing appropriate and fair methods of assessment and providing constructive and timely feedback to support student progress and achievement
  • Maintaining accurate records of individual students’ progress and achievements
  • Using students’ feedback and achievement to plan and improve the quality of education


Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Promoting positive relationships with external stakeholders to shape the curriculum and deliver a current, authentic programme of study
  • Participating in curriculum planning processes
