Hartlepool Sixth Form is the top performing Sixth Form college in the North East for student achievement, with 100% pass rate for over 30 courses and 98% of our student progressing to either College or employment.

About the Candidate

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in safeguarding and supporting the wellbeing of students. You will work closely with the wider Student Services team, tutorial staff, curriculum staff, and external agencies to provide interventions, engagement opportunities, and guidance that promote student wellbeing and reduce the risk of harm.

Role Responsibilities

  • Provide safeguarding interventions and support for students.

  • Work with curriculum, pastoral support, and learning support staff to assess and address students’ needs.

  • Promote student wellbeing through engagement initiatives and awareness activities.

  • Liaise with external agencies and make appropriate referrals where necessary.

  • Maintain confidential records and ensure safeguarding policies are implemented effectively.

  • Represent the College at multi-agency meetings, contributing to student support plans.


Qualifications

  • Recognised professional qualification in working with young people (e.g., social work, youth work, careers guidance, teaching, or a relevant degree).

  • Working knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and confidentiality procedures.


Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience in safeguarding and wellbeing support within an educational or youth setting.

  • Strong understanding of child protection, Prevent, and safeguarding procedures.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to assess and manage risk effectively.

  • Experience working with external agencies to support vulnerable individuals.


Desirable Skills & Experience (Optional)

  • Experience in mental health support or counselling.

  • Knowledge of local safeguarding networks and procedures.

  • Previous experience as a Designated Safeguarding Officer.
