About the College 

Northumberland College is the only college in the county serving, the communities of Northumberland, offering a diverse curriculum from Entry level to Level 6, discrete SEND provision and Apprenticeships.

We have three campuses based in Berwick, Ashington, and Kirkley Hall, and in October 2024 we achieved an Outstanding rating from Ofsted, in addition to being the top Performing Land based College in the Northeast.  

Over recent years, the College has invested over £14million in new facilities at its sites, including a £2.5 million STEM Centre at its Ashington campus which is set to become the first pathfinder Gen zero FE College in the UK in 2025/2026

About the Role

At Northumberland College, we are looking to appoint an inspiring and forward-thinking Programme Leader in Construction Multi-Skills to lead the development of a modern, flexible curriculum that reflects the evolving demands of the construction industry. This role is central to preparing students for careers across multiple trades, with a strong focus on sustainability, quality, and adaptability.

The construction sector is rapidly changing, driven by the shift towards low-carbon buildings, modern methods of construction (MMC), and the use of digital tools across all trades. As Programme Leader, you will ensure students gain practical experience across key trade areas—such as bricklaying, plastering, joinery, and tiling—while embedding core principles of sustainability, efficiency, and health and safety.

You will collaborate with industry partners to ensure our training reflects current standards and prepares learners for the challenges of the modern construction site. You will also lead on the development of learning that supports wider government and industry priorities, including retrofitting, energy efficiency, and green skills.

Role Responsibilities 

  • Lead curriculum development across multiple construction trades with a future-focused, sustainable approach.
  • Deliver high-quality teaching that prepares students for real-world multi-skills roles.
  • Embed green construction practices and modern methods into the learning experience.
  • Work with employers to ensure curriculum aligns with industry needs and expectations.
  • Support and develop staff to deliver innovative and practical training.
  • Promote behaviours, values, and skills aligned with a modern, professional workforce.

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum Level 3 qualification in a construction trade
  • Level 5 Teaching Qualification or willingness to work towards.
  • Level 2 qualifications in Maths and English or willingness to work towards 
  • Health and Safety qualification desirable.

 

Skills & Experience

  • Practical experience across a range of construction trades and site-based skills.
  • Understanding of sustainable construction, MMC, and industry developments.
  • Experience teaching or delivering vocational training in construction.
  • Ability to integrate digital tools and modern techniques into teaching.
  • Proven ability to engage employers and align training with sector priorities.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
