We are committed to providing a working environment which proactively promotes the positive physical and mental health and wellbeing of all our employees and the wider region. We understand that the health and wellbeing of our employees is crucial to the effective running of our College. We aim to embed health into all aspects of campus culture and empower all employees to be part of the wellbeing journey.

The wellbeing of our employees is very important, so as well as an excellent Occupational Health referral system, the College offers the following to all staff: 

MCL EAP Scheme (Employee Assistance Programme)

This Employee Assistant Programme is available to all employees. The service provides free and confidential support that is available 24 hours a day. They can support with a range of personal or work-related issues including; 

  • work/life balance
  • marital/family issues and childcare/parenting challenges
  • bereavement and loss
  • domestic violence
  • bullying and harassment
  • stress, anxiety and depression
  • trauma
  • serious illness and accident
  • legal support, money advice and debt management

My Wellbeing Hub

This is a digital space where employees can find a wealth of information, advice and guidance that can support selfcare, and help you take control of your wellbeing. It includes information in relation to 'My Mind', 'My Body', 'My Money', 'My Space' and 'My Campus'. 

Eyesight tests

All DSE users are entitled to regular eye tests, therefore the College will pay for a free eye test every two years and will contribute up to £49 towards the cost of glasses with Spec Savers, if it is deemed necessary for your role. 

College Fitness Suite 

All employees have access to the fully equipped, sport and fitness centre on within the Bede Campus. There are no membership fees involved, however, a full gym induction must be completed.

Hair, Beauty and Relaxation Treatments

Discounts are available to all employees across the College on a wide range of hair and beauty treatments including haircuts and colours, massage and manicures. The treatments are carried out by our Sunderland and Northumberland College students under the close supervision of highly qualified hair and beauty lecturers
